Morelos Stadium

7 Minutes from the Hotel (by car with normal traffic).

The Generalissimo José María Morelos y Pavón Stadium, commonly known as the Morelos Stadium, is a Mexican stadium for soccer practice. It is located on the Peripheral Paseo de la República, in the Independencia sector, northwest of the city of Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico. It is currently the headquarters of the Club Atlético Morelia, which has competed in the MX Expansion League since 2020. This property has hosted various extra-sports events, such as concerts, political rallies and religious meetings. Its official name is a tribute to José María Morelos y Pavón, hero of the Independence of Mexico, a native of this city.

The total capacity of the property is 38,869 comfortably seated spectators (this after the remodeling of 2011), which constitutes it in the eighth largest stadium in Mexico, below other stages such as the Azteca Stadium, the University Olympic Stadium , the Jalisco Stadium, the Akron Stadium, the Cuauhtémoc Stadium, the University Stadium (UANL) and the BBVA Stadium; however, in terms of functionality and modernity, it is considered one of the best stadiums in Mexico. It is worth mentioning that it is the largest stadium in a Mexican city with less than 1,000,000 inhabitants.

This property was the venue for the 2011 U-17 Soccer World Cup where the inauguration was held with a match between Mexico and North Korea with a 3-1 result in favor of the Aztecs; It also hosted the teams from the Netherlands and Congo and hosted a Group B match between Argentina and Japan, the Japanese winning with a categorical 3-1. Right there, second phase matches were played, the round of 16 match between Congo and Uruguay with a score of 2-1 in favor of the Uruguayans and the last match played was the quarterfinal between Germany and England with a 3-2 in favor of the Teutons.

Morelos de Morelia was the fourth best venue in terms of attendance with a total of 154 610 spectators in its 8 matches, below the 193,322 of the Azteca of Mexico City, of the 176 926 of the Corregidora de Querétaro (in Querétaro it was played one more game) and of the 171 616 of the Omnilife de Guadalajara.
